Donations provide 80,000 meals to local organizations who operate backpack programs for hungry children.

MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. – Arvest Bank’s one-day donation blitz, known as Feed the Pack Day, to help reduce hunger in North Central Arkansas resulted in monetary donations that exceeded $16,000, and donations of 3,531 nonperishable food items.

All of the donations benefit the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas’* backpack program that supports more than 600 children in Baxter County alone. Donations also benefit several other organizations in the area that operate backpack programs. Such programs support children who face food insecurity by sending them home with snacks on weekends and holidays, times when they don’t have access to school meal programs and may not have food.  For every dollar that is donated, hunger relief organizations can provide five meals.

“Thanks to our combined efforts, we will provide more than 80,000 meals to these area backpack programs in support of several hundred children who depend on these programs for food,” said Sally Gilbert, market president for Arvest Bank in Mountain Home. “We are extremely grateful to those who contributed, our volunteers and our associates for making Feed the Pack Day a success!”

Volunteers in Mountain Home, Yellville, Gassville, Flippin and Salesville collected donations at designated intersections and storefronts all day on May 5.
This is Arvest Bank’s second annual Feed the Pack Day. In 2016, the donation drive collected more than $19,000 and almost 500 non-perishable food items for area backpack programs.

The initiative is held in support of Arvest Bank’s 7th annual 1 Million Meals campaign that challenges bank associates, customers and community members to participate in fundraising efforts and nonperishable food drives to fight hunger in the more than 120 communities the bank serves.

The goal of the bank-wide 1 Million Meals campaign is to collect enough food or monetary donations to provide at least one million meals to local, hungry families across Arvest Bank’s four-state footprint. Donations may be dropped off at any Arvest Bank location by June 3 or by calling (866) 952-9523. Arvest credit card customers also can donate Arvest Flex Rewards™ points by visiting arvestflexrewards.com and clicking on the 1 Million Meals banner.
