Did you know January 19 is National Popcorn Day? It is a long-running tradition for each Arvest branch to pop popcorn on Fridays. The tradition has grown over the years and evolved to become an integral and special part of the Arvest customer experience. For this reason, we celebrate National Popcorn Day each year. This Saturday many of our branches that are open will serve popcorn in honor of National Popcorn Day.

Fun Popcorn Facts:

  • Popcorn can pop up to 3 feet in the air. That’s as tall as a maned wolf!
  • Americans consume 1.12 billion lbs. of popped popcorn annually which is about the same weight as all the phone books produced per year in the U.S.
  • Popcorn has been used to make cornmeal, beer and soup.
  • At least 6 towns in 5 different states claim to be the “Popcorn Capital of the World.” They include: Ridgway, Illinois; Valparaiso, Indiana; Van Buren, Indiana; Schaller, Iowa; Marion, Ohio; and North Loup, Nebraska.
  • Popcorn was the first food to be deliberately microwaved.
  • “The Guinness Book of Records” documents the world’s largest popcorn ball as 12 feet in diameter and weighing 2,000 lbs. which is about the same weight as an elephant!

Check out our popcorn Pinterest board for fun recipes and flavors of popcorn. Also, keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter accounts on Thursday and Friday for fun popcorn-related questions.

Will you be celebrating National Popcorn Day? If so, how?
