Special guests from Nikaho, Japan, visited Arvest Bank in Shawnee on Friday, October 19th as a part of an international cultural exchange tour. Arvest was on their list of places to visit in Shawnee because of the very old antique scale and the vintage shoe shine stand at the main branch downtown.   We were very pleased an honored they included Arvest Bank on their itinerary.

Jim Smith, who mans the stand and shines shoes, visited with the students and had his picture taken with them.  They enjoyed hearing about his experiences of shining shoes every morning in the foyer of our main lobby and highlights from his career, including shining boots at the International Youth Finals Rodeo held in Shawnee.

The students visited several other landmarks in the Shawnee area before leaving to return to Japan. The contingent included eleven girls, three boys along with three adults.  They all are from Nikaho, Japan, Shawnee’s Sister City.
